Rachael Sage – Only You (Yazoo cover)

Alt-pop songstress Rachael Sage delivers a poignant reinterpretation of the ’80s Yazoo classic “Only You” at just the right moment. With its timeless, hummable melody and updated arrangement complimenting Sage’s folky storytelling approach, this heartfelt track is as much revamp as a respectful homage to the beloved UK synth-pop original. “Only You” is a ballad written by musician Vince Clarke. He wrote it while with Depeche Mode but recorded it in 1982 after forming the duo Yazoo with Alison Moyet. It was released as Yazoo’s first single on 15 March 1982 in the United Kingdom and in November that same year in the US.

ヤズーは男１名・女１名のデュオ。Vince Clarke（ヴィンス・クラーク）とAlison Moyet（アリソン・モイエ）の二人で、１９８２年イギリスのエセックスで結成されたグループ。ヴィンスはデペッシュ・モードに在籍していましたが脱退。「Only You」はデペッシュ・モード在籍中に作られた歌です。ヴィンスとアリソンの出会いとデュオ結成に至る経過がWikipediaに出ていました。２人は同じ町で育ち、１１歳のときに同じ土曜日の音楽学校に通っていたにもかかわらず、お互いをよく知らず、お互いに話したことはなかったようです。ヴィンスは、彼の親友がアリソンが組んでいたパンクバンドにいたので、アリソンがライブで歌うのを何回か観ていて、彼女の声の能力に気づいて、「Only You」を歌わせるのは彼女しかいない！と思ったようです。
