Vanishing Twin

Vanishing Twin – Magician’s Success

There’s a mystery to Vanishing Twin – from their name to the multitude of sounds that inhabit their music. They don’t sound like many but they hint at plenty; even the briefest exposure starts a tick list of the weird and beautiful – from Sun Ra to Alice Coltrane, Martin Denny to Morricone, Can’s Holger Czukay to meditative Gamelan, or The Free Design, to library music of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Locked into their strangely-accessible groove is a history of ‘other’ sound, a crafted hauntology that evinces something completely new. Vanishing Twin is a conundrum in these fragmenting times; familiar, yet different; appealing to this world, but from another, parallel one.

All this over a cohesive groove that nods to space-age music. The new track is released alongside a new clay animated music video by London based video artist Daisy Dickinson (Flaming Lips, Toy, Snapped Ankles).

Vanishing Twin – Big Moonlight (Ookii Gekkou)

Torn from the earth and out into near space by the sun
Movements in phases, tides so high that the rocks rose, came undone
Everything quivering, swilling and spun
Leaving a hole where she lay for so long for the ocean

Big moonlight (ookii gekkou, ookii gekkou, ookii gekkou)

There’s a mystery to Vanishing Twin – from their name to the multitude of sounds that inhabit their music. They don’t sound like many but they hint at plenty. ‘Ookii Gekkou’ (Japanese for Big Moonlight) is the sound of ordinary life under a different set of rules, a record conceived and created in dark times – a sort of dream catcher for all the madness of the past year.

フランス・パリ発、5人組のレトロなインディーポップ・バンド En Attendant Ana. Ahead of the release of their Principia LP in a few weeks, French indie-oriented quintet En Attendant Ana share the delightful new video for featured track Same Old Story. The band cites Electrelane and Stereolab as influences, and you can hear their fuzzy, slightly jazzy sound in the undulating bass line and chiming nature of the arrangement.
